  • Custom entity types in Tonic Textual with Regex 🎯
  • Generator presets and custom sensitivity on Tonic Structural Cloud 🔏
  • A new look for Tonic Structural's Table View đź‘€
  • Native support for DynamoDB on Tonic Structural ⚙️
  • AWS Secrets Manager on Tonic Structural 🤫

Custom entity types in Tonic Textual with Regex 🎯

Tonic Textual offers a comprehensive library of built-in entity types for detecting sensitive information but proprietary data often includes sensitive data types that don’t fit a common mold. For these domain-specific situations, Textual enables you to create custom entity types to tailor entity recognition to your specific data needs.

By leveraging regular expressions, you can define and detect organization-specific patterns—such as internal identifiers, proprietary codes, or organization-specific terminology—that might not be covered by Textual’s standard NER models. If a value matches a configured regular expression for the custom entity type, then it will be identified as that entity type by Textual.

What’s more, Textual allows you to control which datasets or pipelines use each custom entity type, enabling fine-grained customization based on your use case. By equipping you with the tools you need to detect your sensitive data, Textual ensures optimal efficiency and data privacy. Get started with a free trial today.

Generator presets and custom sensitivity on Tonic Structural Cloud 🔏

Tonic Structural’s cloud configuration experience just got faster! Tailor sensitive data detection and protection to your organization’s specific needs, for better data governance and consistent data quality.

Structural’s built-in sensitivity and confidence indicators provide a great first pass on flagging privacy risks in your data. With its custom sensitivity rules, you can augment the platform’s logic based on the data and schema in your domain. Proactively and consistently mark at-risk fields: simply define a rule using logical operators or regular expressions and Structural will automatically mark all matching fields as “Sensitive”.

On the data protection side, in addition to Structural’s library of generators, Generator Presets enable you to specify configuration settings for existing generators, save them with custom names, and leverage them globally across your organization. For example, you can customize a birthdate generator to only use a specified age range that is representative of your dataset. Both of these features are now available for our Tonic Structural Cloud users, to accelerate your organization’s data onboarding.

Tonic Structural's Table View has a new look đź‘€

Table View in Tonic Structural now surfaces key privacy details directly in the column headings to accelerate configuration. Recently added features such as detection confidence levels (temperature gauge) and generator recommendations (sparkles) appear as icons. We’re keeping you and your team up to date with the Structural metadata you need to efficiently and confidently protect your data at a column level.

Native support for DynamoDB on Tonic Structural ⚙️

Our native database support in Tonic Structural continues to expand with the addition of DynamoDB! Much like Structural’s native support for MongoDB, our DynamoDB connector enables you to de-identify your Dynamo data realistically and consistently across documents. Structural’s patented Hybrid Document view grants you a comprehensive look at your NoSQL data to capture the complexity of your schemaless database and safely carry it over into your lower environments, free of PII. This connector is in public beta, with additional features on the way. Interested in learning more? Reach out to hello@tonic.ai to connect with our team.

AWS Secrets Manager on Tonic Structural 🤫

Tonic Structural now integrates with AWS Secrets Manager for database credentials. This integration allows you to manage your passwords outside of Tonic Structural, streamlining how Structural users manage their credentials. A win for easy integration, added security, and fewer setup worries. Let us know what other tools you use to manage your database credentials to help inform our integration roadmap!

Small updates; big impacts

Often it's the little things that matter most. Here's a round up of our smaller releases:

  • In Tonic Structural, the UUID Key generator now supports UUIDs that are stored in strings without hyphens. When the input value contains hyphens, the output contains hyphens. When the input value does not contain hyphens, the output does not contain hyphens. All in the name of further customizing your test data.
  • On Tonic Textual’s Home page, in addition to typing or pasting text to redact, you can now upload a file to streamline your path to data de-identification.
  • Tonic Textual has also improved its detection and handling of a number of data types, including:
    • URLs and email addresses,
    • signature blocks in PDFs, and
    • fillable PDF forms.
  • We squashed a bunch of bugs and made a number of feature improvements in our Db2 LUW connector for Tonic Structural. Data sizes are now more accurate, and we fixed some UI issues, improved the recommendations, and made overall performance improvements. We ♥️ this connector. Got Db2 in your tech stack? Check it out!

As always, we'd love to hear your feedback on our products. What do you need? What do you love? What could be better? Send us a note at hello@tonic.ai! And for all the latest updates, be sure to check out our complete release notes.
